What are hormones?

Hormones are the body’s chemical messengers that travel around our bloodstream telling our organs, tissues and cells what to do. We don’t normally think about their existence until something feels “off” and we don’t feel like ourselves.

Our hormones fluctuate at certain times of our lives (puberty, pregnancy, menopause) and can naturally reduce as part of the aging process. These significant life experiences can be a seamless process for some people, but for others it can be a trigger that amplifies the imbalances already existing in our body.

Stress hormones…

Modern society has us conditioned to feeling constantly rushed and under pressure. This leads to an increase of stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. As our body gradually produces more stress hormones, it starts reducing the other hormones our body needs to function optimally, and we start feeling out of whack.

Signs of a hormonal imbalance?

Low mood, anxiety, unexplained weight gain, fertility issues, fluid retention, feeling cold, acne around the chin and jawline, even bloating can all be signs that you’re experiencing a hormonal imbalance.

A hormonal imbalance is an indicator that something in your body is working less than optimally, however with functional lab testing, we can work out what the root cause is.

The hormonal lab I can offer is:

The lab tests are comprehensive and measures cortisol, sex hormones and the active forms of thyroid hormones.
